A New Year

My husband and I aren't much on New Year's celebrations, so my motivation always kicks up a notch after Christmas and his birthday. We had his birthday dinner last night, so today is game on! I went to Weight Watchers after a week of indulging (no regrets though), and I gained 2.4 pounds. More than I wanted, but not the end of the world.

Have you heard about Weight Watchers Simple Start? To me, it basically seems like Simply Filling, so I'm going to try that for a week or two to get back on track with good-for-me foods. I'm excited about it.

I'm not normally much of a cook. I grew up in a family that did the yummy but super unhealthy southern cooking. They cook by a pinch of this, a little of that. That does not compute for me. I prefer baking because it's nice and specific. The Simple Start book had some great cooking tips that I think will help my poor cooking skills a whole lot. I also got The Can't Cook Book by Jessica Seinfeld. It actually had recipes that I would eat and was great for a beginner cook. I can't wait to attempt some of it.

One of the lessons I've learned in my weight loss is that it's helpful to surround myself with inspiration. Motivation dies out so quickly, so I need a lot of incentives to keep me on track. Last year, I used a Smash Book as a scrapbook and journal to keep track of my progress and my goals. I had lists of meals that I liked, progress pictures, fun activities, bucket lists, rewards for different goals, and all kinds of things. Anything that I thought would help keep me focused went into it. Now that it's a new year, I'm going to start a new Smash Book. I haven't decided what all to include yet, but I can't wait to get it started.

It's been a rough few weeks. Just before Christmas, my precious Granny passed away. It was so difficult. Due to that, I've missed spin class, among other things. I can't wait to get started with that again on Monday. I'm also thinking about giving Body Revolution another go. I like the way I feel when I'm active and building muscle. It helps dealing with all the emotions going on right now too.

Hope you have a great week!

Hi

Hi!

A quick welcome. I am Nikki. I am currently on an adventure (I hate "journey") to lose 150 pounds. I'm down 52 over the past year. I'm starting a blog to share the things I've learned along the way and to help me sort out my thoughts when I'm struggling.

To lose 52 pounds, I've used Weight Watchers. I haven't done a lot of exercise, but six weeks ago, I started a cycle class and LOVE it.

For me, this weight loss adventure is purely emotional. I am very much an emotional eater, and taking control of that is sometimes easy, sometimes seemingly impossible.

I have no plans to post daily, but I'll try at least once a week. I hope you have fun with me!
